The Breg Polar Care Wave is a cold and compression system, and its pads are a different category of product than the WrapOn pads used with the Cube and Glacier. Wave pads are designed to deliver both cold water circulation and active compression simultaneously, and replacing them with the correct Wave-specific pad is the only way to maintain the full function of the system.
Before ordering a replacement pad, it is worth understanding why Wave pads are not interchangeable with pads from other Breg systems.
The Polar Care Cube, Glacier, and Cub use WrapOn pads, which are cold-only pads that circulate chilled water without a compression component. These pads use elastic straps and attach to a different cooler connection type.
Wave pads are compression pads built specifically for the Polar Care Wave system. The Wave uses a motorized pump to deliver both cold water circulation and active intermittent compression through the pad simultaneously. The pad fitting, internal construction, and compression channel are designed exclusively for the Wave. Installing a WrapOn pad on a Wave cooler, or a Wave pad on a Cube, will not work. The fittings and internal mechanisms are incompatible.
If you own a Polar Care Wave and need a replacement pad, only Wave-specific pads will restore full cold and compression function. For a broader look at the Wave system itself, our Breg Polar Care Wave Cold Therapy System product page covers the full system in detail.
We carry Breg Polar Care Wave replacement pads for the following body areas. Each pad delivers both cold water circulation and active compression through the Wave system.
The Standard Knee pad fits a thigh circumference of 8 to 27 inches and measures 16" x 12". This configuration is suited for most adult builds and is one of the most commonly ordered Wave pad replacements for post-surgical knee recovery.
The Large Knee pad accommodates a thigh circumference of 16 to 30.5 inches and measures 16" x 17.5", with strap lengths of 14.5" and 11.5". This is the appropriate choice for patients who need more coverage or have a larger build.
The Shoulder pad fits a shoulder circumference of 40 to 50 inches and a bicep circumference of 12 to 20 inches. One size is available for shoulder use. If your measurements fall outside this range, contact our team before ordering to confirm the best option for your situation.
The Foot/Ankle pad accommodates an ankle circumference of 9 to 16 inches and a foot circumference of 7 to 12 inches. This wraps the ankle and foot area for targeted cold and compression during sessions. Patients recovering from ankle surgery, Achilles tendon repair, or foot procedures commonly order this configuration.
The Hip pad covers the hip joint area and is sized to fit most adult builds. Recovery after hip replacement or labral repair often requires managing a larger surface area, and this pad delivers cold and compression across that broader region.
The Back pad covers the lumbar region and suits patients using the Wave for lower back recovery. Those managing post-surgical lower back pain or ongoing lumbar discomfort can use the same Wave cooler with this configuration.
The Universal pad is a flexible option that is not contoured for a specific joint. This suits patients managing more than one recovery area or those who prefer a single pad. Patients who rotate the Wave system between joints throughout rehabilitation often find this the most practical choice.
Sizing Wave pads correctly before ordering avoids the need for an exchange and makes sure the compression component delivers as intended.
For the knee, measure your thigh circumference and match it to the Standard or Large range. For the shoulder, measure the circumference of the shoulder and bicep and confirm it falls within the 40 to 50 inch shoulder and 12 to 20 inch bicep range. The full sizing chart is available on the product page.
A skin barrier between the pad and the skin is recommended for every session. Breg's sterile dressings are available through our replacement parts page. To review the materials that go into Breg pads before ordering, our blog, What Are Breg Polar Care Pads Made Of, spotlights the construction directly.
One practical advantage of the Wave system is the ability to use the same cooler with different pad configurations over the course of recovery. Patients who need cold and compression at more than one joint can switch pads rather than purchasing a second unit, which reduces the overall cost of the recovery setup. Our blog, Can Breg Polar Care Be Used on Different Body Parts?, covers multi-area use in detail.
Correct placement directly affects how well the compression and cold therapy perform. Step-by-step application guidance is available in our How to Position the Breg Polar Care Pad guide.
A few points worth confirming before ordering.
No. Wave pads are designed exclusively for the Polar Care Wave system. They are not compatible with the Polar Care Cube, Glacier, or Cub, which use WrapOn pads with a different fitting.
A WrapOn pad delivers cold water only and uses elastic straps to secure it in place. A Wave pad delivers both cold water and active compression through an integrated compression channel.
Measure your thigh circumference. The Standard Knee pad fits 8 to 27 inches. The Large Knee pad fits 16 to 30.5 inches. If you are between sizes or unsure, contact our team before ordering.
A sterile dressing between the pad and the skin is recommended for every session. Breg's sterile dressings are the appropriate option and are available on our replacement parts page.
The Universal pad is the most flexible option for multi-area use. Joint-specific pads, such as the knee or shoulder pad, are contoured for their intended area and are less practical as general-purpose replacements.
Yes. Breg Polar Care Wave replacement pads are HSA and FSA approved.
