Breg® Polar Care Wave Cold Therapy System

Type

  • The Breg Polar Care Wave is part of the third generation of cold compression products that deliver cold therapy through anatomic wraps while also providing compression, which has been clinically proven to decrease narcotic use post-operatively.¹

The Polar Care Wave is a motorized cold therapy machine housed in a simple, quiet, and compact unit. Polar Care Wave combines motorized cold therapy with active compression in a simple and compact system, making it ideal for facility and home use. Polar Care Wave is easily transported from the hospital, physical therapy clinic, or athletic training room to the patient’s home, extending the benefits of cold and compression.

This is the highest end cold therapy product on the market in its price category. A comparable system you should google is "Gameready" to best understand the value you are receiving with this cold therapy unit. Gameready is a great device and nearly 10x the cost. The Polar Care Wave delivers a great value for the clinical benefit.

The Breg® Polar Care Wave System is intended to treat post-surgical and acute injuries to reduce edema, swelling, and pain where cold and compression are indicated.

United States Federal Law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a medical professional. It is intended to be used by or on the order of licensed healthcare professionals in hospitals, outpatient clinics, athletic training settings, or home settings.

As good as game ready

I recently had knee surgery and had to rent a game ready for 125$ a week as insurance does not cover it. I was told I could use a bag of frozen peas ......as a physician I am fully aware that icing is absolutely essential so I had no choice. I did try to see if I could buy a game ready. New or used but found 4K plus was a bit much. Luckily I found this Breg machine on OrthoBracing. I can say it’s compression is as good as game ready and I am grateful for finding it as now I own a unit at less than a tenth of the cost I cannot speak to durability as it is new but so far so great! I use 8oz frozen water bottles I rotate btw to workaround ice issues. Works great.

Nice product

I had foot surgery recently and purchased the machine to help control swelling. I've had it for a couple of weeks --it does a pretty good job, although I do wish it was a tad colder. Fits a range of sizes, which is a little bit of ding because it's hard to wrap tightly over my foot (I be the larger the foot, the better the fit). I have noticed the longer you stay in the boot during a session, the colder it gets. But, I cannot sit in the boot for an hour! All in all, it's a little on the pricey side for a home machine, but I'd definitely recommend for cold and compression therapy.

One note: I cannot find the ice packs anywhere, not even on this website. From what I can tell from the manual, you can fill them with water, freeze them and use instead of ice.

GAME CHANGER

I purchased this after rotator cuff surgery. It has made a huge difference in my pain status. My recovery is coming along much smoother now.

Breg for shoulder

I had surgery a few days ago and still haven't been to remove the bandages which are about 3 inches thick. They will come off tomorrow. In the meantime, the shoulder attachment is not big enough to wrap around my shoulder and apply cold because of the bandages. I think that the Game Ready unit that I rented for my other shoulder had more coverage. The down side is that the Game Ready was side specific which is one of the reasons that I bought the Breg. Starting tomorrow I expect to reap the benefits of this apparatus

Icing is King

I was going to purchase a Game Ready, till I saw this option. It does the same as the Game Ready does, just in a consumer friendly package.
I have used it 6-8 times daily since I got it.
I just had my second knee replacement. I don't take any of the pain meds or any other meds, so this helps combat the pain.
I wish I had it 3 years ago when I had my first knee replaced.
Don't over think it, just buy one and heal faster.
