    Breg Wave vs Game Ready

A comparable system you should google is "Game Ready" to best understand the value you are receiving with this cold therapy unit. Gameready is a great device and nearly 10x the cost. Breg Wave Ice Bags

A very popular and often recommended accessory for the Breg Polar Wave Ice Machine is the ice bags which are extremely helpful because when you are recovering you do not want to be getting up and down going to the freezer to refill your ice machine: huge convenience factor.

Effective at Reducing Inflammation

I purchased the polar wave unit to assist with recovery related to an ACL tear. This unit is considerably cheaper than some of the alternatives, but has punched well above its weight in terms of effectiveness.

The unit itself is intuitive to use and straight from the box has provided excellent relief. At times I wish it were able to go colder, but it’s comparatively muted cooling has meant that it can remain on and circulating cooled water for much longer than alternative units. Overall 5/5 and well worth the money.

Working Awesome so far

Using in the course of ACL reconstruction and meniscus recovery. We also purchased 8 of the reusable ice cubes. The device performs very similar to a humongous rental unit we had initially. This device is VERY quiet as well. The hose is super easy to connect and disconnect and the wrap is very comfortable. Really love that there is virtually no leaking when you separate the wrap from the hose.

Great system for post-operative management

The Breg Wave System has been absolutely amazing following my first ever knee surgery. I used it with the large knee pad following surgery on my medial and lateral knee, and my patella. I used this system for hours on end, every single day for the first four weeks following my surgery and give it credit for helping keep my swelling down and aiding in my recovery. It does not get as cold as a GameReady system, however it still gets cold enough to be effective while allowing you to keep it on for longer periods of time without needing to remove it (which I actually preferred). The compression feels really nice and is not overwhelmingly intense. This system is wildly more affordable than GameReady while still being very effective. I am 8 weeks post-op and use this system on days where my knee gets sore/swollen, and will continue to do so as I recover. I would highly recommend this system as an affordable way to aid in recovery from surgery.

Not sure of it being worth the cost…

I want to preface this by saying that I use this device for chronic knee pain and not for post acute surgery. It definitely does not get as cold as using a traditional ice bag or ice pack, but it does circulate cold ice water pretty well. One thing to be careful of is tightening the straps too tight, which doesn’t allow water to flow through the bandage portion. That being said, if you can’t tightly strap the brace on, then when you use the compression feature, it just a balloons out away from your skin and doesn’t really compress it very much.
All in all, it does provide cold therapy to the desired area, in my case, the knee, but I believe they have lower cost systems that will do the same. Myself personally I’m not sold on the compression portion and feel I could have invested in one of the cheaper systems to get the same cold therapy treatment effect.
